Male Birth Control Developed in India, Coming to U.S.

4 Jun

Finally, a form of male birth control has been developed!  Somewhat like a reversible vasectomy, RISUG (reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance) is the injection of a nontoxic polymer into the vas deferens, so any sperm that passes it is made infertile.  Another injection reverses the procedure, and all of this is done while the patient is awake (though with a local anaesthetic, of course.)  Developed in India in response to overpopulation in poorer communities. Testing has just begun in the U.S. in order to obtain FDA approval.
