just in: circumcision may decrease HPV infection

24 Jan

A recent study by the Lancet medical journal has found that circumcised men are less likely to give their female partners HPV, thereby lowering their cervical cancer risk.  The study was held in Rakai, Uganda, where men and their consistnet partners (such as long-term girlfriends and wives,) were monitored for two years.  27.8% of women sleeping with circumcised men contracted HPV over these two years, compared to 38.7% of women whose partners were uncircumcised.  Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women worldwide, and this new information may change whether new mothers circumcise their sons.
