National Survey States The Obvious

5 Oct

In the recent National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior, some new truths of sexual behavior in the U.S. came to light.

On condoms:

80% of 14-17 year old guys used condoms during their last sexual encounter, compared to 45% of 16-24 year olds and 21.3% of 35-44 year olds.   Why are college kids almost half as responsible as high schoolers? Especially considering how much easier they are to get fo’ free.

1 in 4 instances of heterosexual sex use condoms.

– Black and Hispanic men are more likely than white men to use condoms.

– Black women reported more condom use that white or Hispanic women.

– Sex was rated equally enjoyable with or without a condom.

On masturbation:

– 25-29 year olds are the age group most likely to masturbate (72% of women, 84% of men)

– Women consistently masturbate less frequently than men in the same age group.

On sexual behaviors,

–  18-19 year old women are receiving anal sex twice as often as 18-19 year old men are having insertive anal sex.  The authors of the study suggest that these young women are having anal sex with older men, but I think it may be that a select number of younger guys are just having anal with more girls.  Most girls I know don’t trust just anyone with their anus, so this is one department in which the more experience he has, the better.

– People are engaging in same-sex sex without identifying as gay.    This seems like a no-brainer to anyone living on a college campus, but to quantify it: 10.8% of 20-24 year old men report receptive anal sex, while only 8% of men identify as gay.  The more apparent the uselessness of labels become, the sooner they will fade from our discourse.

– Per usual, women are excellent at faking it.  85% of men report their partner climaxed the last time they had sex, while only 65% of women reported having an orgasm.  Personally, I firmly oppose faking it, from a learned-behavior standpoint.   Why reward him for a job poorly done?!
